Despite all these positives Kenya has the lowest tree cover compared to its immediate neighbours standing at 2%, compared to:

  • The Democratic Republic of Congo at 55.6%
  • Tanzania 51.65%
  • Ethiopia 15.7%
  • Uganda 11.66%
  • South Sudan 11.3%
  • Burundi 10.89%
  • Somalia 9.5%
  • Eriteria 8.71%
Kenya’s tree cover is far below the global recommended average cover of 10%. This is the problem we are trying to help solve with this programme. Our target is to ensure Kenya reaches a tree cover of 30% within this decade.
